Revisions to ISTA 3A Testing Procedures May 2007 (07B-124)
The International Safe Transit Association (ISTA), the leading international organization dedicated to improving packaging methods and developing specifications for the testing of packaged products, has announced three changes to its 3A testing procedure as follows:
Technical Change: A second series of free fall drops for Flat and Elongated Packaged Products has been added. The addition of this second series of free fall drops comes after the collection and analysis of a significant amount of data that indicates a correlation to improved performance for packages withstanding a second series of free fall drops.
Enhancement: Picture graphics have been added to assist with the identification of different package types.
Clarification: Units of measurement have been clarified for Optional Vibration under the Vacuum Testing Procedure.

About ISTA 3A Testing ISTA 3A testing is an advanced method for package testing that is designed to simulate damage-producing forces that packages may sustain during transport. Companies looking for advanced testing capabilities and the ability to simulate environmental occurrences during transport are using ISTA 3A testing. While the most common industry tests used today still are ISTA 1A/1B, these tests are not designed to simulate environmental conditions and are most useful as screening tests.
