Bureau Veritas Participation in AAFA Environmental Seminar Caps One-Year of Work on Restricted Substances List
June 2007 (07B-129)

Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services is pleased to announce that it will both lead and participate in two panels at the upcoming American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) Seminar on Environmental Issues on June 27 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. The seminar caps over one-year of work by the AAFA’s Environmental Task Force (ETF) on a Restricted Substances List (RSL) to assist the apparel and footwear industry in identifying hazardous substances that must meet specific governmental requirements, both nationally and internationally. Bureau Veritas is an active member on the task force and in the development of the RSL. Training will be provided on the new AAFA Restricted Substances List at the seminar and participants will receive materials related to the list. To register for this seminar, visit

Why the AAFA developed a restricted substances list
Overall environmental hazards and responsibility are increasing concerns within the global marketplace. Whether it is in chemicals used in the production process to those found remaining on the final consumer product, many brands and retailers have taken a proactive approach to managing risks related to these hazards in the form of RSLs. Responsible management of chemicals is an increasing concern within the apparel and footwear industry. Individuals in the textile, apparel, and footwear industry will be required to become more responsible for environmental compliance throughout the supply chain and to become more aware of various regulations governing the amount of substances that are permitted in finished consumer home textile, apparel, and footwear products. The AAFA RSL and similar RSLs intend to aid in this process.

Rick Horwitch, Vice President, Business Development and Marketing will moderate this panel. For information about additional sessions, the AAFA website listed below.
