Overview
Fitness-for-use or FFU testing is the advanced evaluation of power tools performed traditionally by large power tool manufacturers in their private research facilities. Now this testing is available through Bureau Veritas for retailers and manufacturers. It combines durability, energy efficiency, and handling tests that together help quantify the FFU of most power tools.

Durability testing uses computer-controlled test equipment developed for Bureau Veritas on a wide range of power tools including electric drills, circular saws and rotary sanders. The tools can be evaluated for extended periods of time with variable power and variable torque settings. This equipment can compare multiple brands simultaneously during the testing.

The benefits of this type of testing are:
Objective verification of all advertising and packaging label claims.
Assistance to product designers in creating more reliable products
  from simulated work cycles.
Documentation of performance between multiple brands to help
  develop market strategy.
Quality testing far beyond product safety and avoidance of
  off-quality shipments.
Reduction in product returns and customer complaints.

Quality Assurance Options
Bureau Veritas is a global leader in quality assurance protocols for electrical products, including power tool testing and certification services. Our traditional protocols will remain available with product testing capability in Europe, Asia, and North America. These traditional protocols focus on a wide variety of regulatory requirements, product labeling, product packaging, electrical safety and RoHS testing.

Now in addition to our traditional protocols, we are adding protocol modules that measure the performance of power tools as described above. These modules are available from our LCIE lab in Shanghai and are customized in the following three areas to meet your needs:

Durability tests: Assesses the reliability of the tool and
provides a construction check through life cycle simulations.
Efficiency tests: Evaluates the efficiency of functions (drilling,
  grinding, sawing…).
Handling tests: Evaluates the operation of the tool from
  an operator’s perspective.
