EU Publishes Updated List of Harmonized Toy Standards

A new list of harmonized toy standards was published in the Official Journal of the European Union C232 on 4 October 2007. The updates include new specifications for mechanical and physical properties of a number of toys, including toy scooters and mouth actuated projectile toys.

Clause 4.11 (d) : Mouth actuated projectile toys (e.g., Peashooters) are included with a modified testing methodology in clause 8.17.1
Clause 4.15.1.4 : Exclusion of toy bicycles with a fixed transmitted drive
Clause 4.17.1 (b) : Projectiles – Resilient material can detach under 60N force provided the resulting element is still compliant (this does not apply to suction cup as impact surface)
Clause 4.20 Acoustics – Rattles and squeeze toys intended to be permanently attached to a device fixed across a cradle, cot, or perambulator are exempted from acoustics requirements
